Hello! I’m hoping this FAQ will help answer questions that come up fairly often.
Making Art and Favorite Materials
1. How long have you been painting?
I started painting in the middle of 2023. Since then, I’ve tried to work on something art related every day. I didn’t have any major drawing or painting experience before this.
2. What materials do you use?
I primarily use water-based mediums to paint, with watercolors at the core. I also use gouache and Neocolor II water-soluble pastels quite a bit. I’ll reach for acrylic ink, India ink, and watercolor pencils on occasion, though almost always in conjunction with another medium.
The substrate depends largely on what kind of style I’m attempting, but it’s most often 100% cotton, 140lbs (300gsm) watercolor paper.
When it comes to dry mediums, I prefer graphite and oil pastels with colored pencils as needed.
Teaching Art and Learning Resources
1. Do you teach classes?
Not yet! I’m thinking about the possibility, though, because I love teaching.
2. What are your favorite videos or books for learning how to paint?
I might have to write a separate post on this because it would be hard to cover it meaningfully in an FAQ. But in general, I use YouTube for specific techniques (e.g. how to paint fur) and books for theory and inspiration. I also follow a lot of artists to study what they do.
Selling Art and Commissions
1. Do you sell your art?
I do, but only in person at the moment. I’m looking into setting up a print store on my website. If it happens, I’ll let you know through my newsletter!
2. Do you accept commissions?
I’m sorry, but no. There are artists who excel at this, I’m just not one of them.
Licensing Art and Usage Permissions
1. Do you license your art to be used on products?
I do not.
2. Can I download your art to post elsewhere, like my website, blog, social media account, or newsletter?
In most cases, I will gently decline to protect my collectors and copyright. Please feel free to ask first, though. If it’s for personal use (i.e. not accessible or sold to the public), I’m absolutely fine with it.
